Hm mmm hmm hm hmmm.
The gentle humming of Asteria's national anthem came from one of the sweetest voices you just might ever hear. Delilah Cardinal was in her room, the one she shared with her biological sister as well as her religious Sister Annabelle. Sister Annabelle was at the chapel house, supposedly helping an elderly man regain his fallen strength. Her ibon, Aphelia, was still sleeping in her stable behind the two resident manors, as it was only two hours after sunrise and she was very tired.
Delilah was folding clothes that she had washed and hung up at sunrise. She returned them to their respective drawers in her dresser, humming merrily to herself. Oh how dearly she wished to know how to play a musical instrument! Those blessed with the gift of music found a special place in her heart. Perhaps she'd take up lessons, if free time permitted it. Perhaps the harp?
The angelic high elf smiled at the thought as she put away her final garment. To create hymns and melodies that filled the silence of speechlessness would be splendid.
Of course, her fantasy of music disappeared when she reminded herself of her next task: find Olivia. Brother Gregory requested help cleaning the Priory horses and their stables, and Delilah gladly offered her help as well as her little sister's. She wasn't sure if Olivia would be happy about that, but it was all in good intention.
"Olivia?" Delilah called as she walked up the stairs to the main floor of the sister house. "Olivia!"

Oh joy, Olivia thought to herself, glancing up from her book. Of course, she wouldn't see anyone because, at the present moment, she was holed up in a closet. The book was old and the ink on the pages was faded to a point where it was almost too hard to read. The polnoc managed, however. A soft, white ball of light floated beside her, allowing her to read in the dark and not having to light some silly little candle.
She put out the light and listened intently to the sound of her sister's footsteps coming up the stairs. Olivia placed her ear to the door, frowning lightly. There was no way in hell that she was going to clean the horses' stables. She shuddered at the thought.
Maybe she could feign sickness? Delilah's so pure, she would never send out her little sister to work if she was sick. Or she could pretend she was bitten by a vampire and it was too bright to go outside. No, that was stupid. That might have worked on Bridgette or Madeleine, but not Delilah.
She stayed quiet.

The sound of approaching footsteps came closer to where Olivia hid. Delilah's feet stopped moving right in front of the closing. She crossed her arms, put most of her weight on her right leg, and tapped her left toe. There was a slightly amused smile on her face. Olivia couldn't hide from her detect life spell!
"Oliviiaaa," she cooed, opening the closet door. Light filtered into the dark room of priest clothing. She knelt down to come closer to Olivia's That same smile was on Delilah's face, and her pretty blue eyes were sparkling with friendliness and sunshine and butterflies and rainbows and everything perfect and happy in the world!
"I told Brother Gregory that we'd wash the horses, clean up their stables, and give them fresh food and water," she beamed, as if the mere thought of helping someone else was something to be superbly excited about. "And yes, I did say we. Come on, I promised it'd be done by noon."
Delilah turned around and began to walk away with her dancer's gait. Then she stopped, a puzzled look on her face, and turned around again. "What were you doing in this closet?"

As Delilah turned around, Olivia frowned, her eyes darkened in a way that would be frowned upon by someone as holy as Delilah. Why did her older sister have to drag her into this stuff without asking her? Where was the kindness in that? Did Olivia really ask to be helping with this stuff? No, she had better things to do with her time. When Delilah turned back, her frown shifted into a straight line, like she normally wore.
Standing up, she dusted off her black dress and placed her book on the floor. Story time, kids. This is how it's done. "Well, Delilah..." The innocence of a child slipped into her voice and a spark of fear shined in her eyes. "I was kept up all night, Delilah..." She glanced around, as if someone were listening to their conversation.
Olivia tugged on Delilah's sleeve, standing on her tiptoes and whispering in her older sibling's ear. "I think a ghost is following me. So, I hid in the closet thinking it was safe..."
